August 2023 Meeting Minutes

LOCATION:    Sunburst Bay Aquatics Center – Cary Park District

PROGRAM:     Sunburst Bay Aquatic Center opened in June of 2022 as a replacement aquatic facility for the original pool which was constructed in 1978 at a different location.  Sunburst Bay includes an eight-lane lap pool with drop slide, diving board, climbing wall, zero depth entry pool with shade structures, water walk feature and a current channel, two flume water slides and a sand volleyball court.  Paul Rogus introduced Executive Director Dan Jones and staff, construction managers from Lampe, and Frank Parisi from Williams Architects.  Paul then led a presentation on the design and construction of the facility.  Members toured the facility following the presentation.

BUSINESS MEETING:      President Derek Solberg called the meeting to order at 12:33 P.M.  Approximately 40 members and guests were present.  Guests were introduced.   Derek thanked Director Jones, staff from the Cary Park District and Paul Rogus for the presentation.

REPORTS:       Minutes – Approved for June, 2023.

                       Treasurer’s Report for July was approved.


                        There were no new members to introduce.

PROGRAM:     President Solberg announced the September 15 Golf Outing in Oswego and that the October meeting will be in Buffalo Grove and deal with playground safety standards and ASTM updates, with a presentation by gold card member Ken Kutska.  The October meeting date has not been set yet.

GOLF OUTING:  Registration is currently taking place.




President Solberg thanked Cunningham Recreation for sponsoring the August mailing.

President Solberg reminded the members that scholarship and award applications will be coming up this fall.

The fund raiser was held.

President Solberg adjourned the meeting at 12:41 PM.

MIPE Announcements

The regular MIPE meeting for October will be held on the THIRD THURSDAY, October 19th and includes the opportunity for CEU’s. See details in the meeting notice.
