The May 13 MIPE meeting will be held via zoom with a presentation by Daniel Grove of Kimley-Horn & Associates on the “Power of Placemaking: Using a Community’s Authentic Character to Enhance Parks.” Placemaking is a design tool and philosophy for taking a public space and making it a living space, incorporating a community’s history and specific characteristics. The presentation will include case studies, including Cantigny Park, the former 500-acre estate of Colonel Robert R. McCormick.
Outcomes include understanding why placemaking is important to the success of community parks and how to incorporate it into park deisgn, including how to apply this process to existing or new sites.
A short MIPE business meeting will follow the presentation.
